Email I sent to Claire McCaskill, in regards to the massive National Defense Authorization Act

This is the email I sent to my Senator, Claire McCaskill, in reference to supporting a policy in a bill that allows for the indefinite detention of Americans, by the military, without trial.

     What you have voted for today is repugnant, sickening and un-American. The National Defense Authorization Act blatantly flies in the face of the constitution, eradicating the Writ of Habeas Corpus. Shame on you.

     Apparently, Congresswoman, you have forgot exactly what your job is supposed to be. Your job is to uphold the constitution and represent your district on the federal level, not actively attack the Constitution. So, to give you a lesson: our Constitution is our social contract between the American people and our government. That's you.

     Within the Declaration of Independence, it clearly states that our rights are NOT granted by our government, but are endowed onto us by our creator, no matter who or what we believe that to be. The constitution (within the Bill of Rights section, you should look it up) clearly defines these rights.

     Since I truly hope you are just dense and not that blatantly anti-American or evil, I believe I must break it down even further. You, acting as the people's government, can not take away rights granted to us, because those rights were not granted by you. Those rights are clearly defined in the constitution, as well as exactly what YOUR job is supposed to be.

     If you are unaware of why this Bill is such a blatant misuse of power (which would lend credence to the 'dense' theory above) let me do your job for you and break it down. This bill allows the indefinite detention of Americans, which our constitution has a Writ of Habeas Corpus which gives all Americans the right to a speedy and public trial. This is granted by Amendment six within the famously known "Bill of Rights" section of our constitution, that very document that grants you your job. Here it is in it's full:

     In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense.

     You voted to keep the controversial detainee policy that allows detaining Americans under military custody, indefinitely. Shame on you. I am at a complete loss of words; truly and utterly disgusted. I will be watching your vote on this bill closely. I would advise and urge you to revisit your position on this bill if you have any integrity and decency.
